about

Grenoble-based post-punk project Varsovie has explored the most passionate manifestations of romanticism and decadence in the genre for more than one and a half decades. The band can be considered the heirs of such French groups of the 1980s and 1990s as Lucie Cries and Noir Désir. This hereditary can most clearly be traced in the early works of Varsovie — the first demo records and the EP Neuf Millimètres, which have long been not available in physical format. "Варшава — Ленинград" ("Warszawa — Leningrad") is a compilation of Varsovie's early history, which was prepared by the band for Night Herbs and covers the period from 2005 to 2006. The headline composition of the collection refers to the life and death of the Russian poet Sergey Yesenin, who committed suicide in Leningrad in 1925. This cassette, published in the former Leningrad, is a kind of postcard that reminds about the illusive nature of boundaries between different countries, history and present, death and life — sometimes so tangible, and at times so insignificant.
«Vivre et mourir comme un orage — Leningrad».

The cassette includes a six-panel booklet with lyrics and information, a postcard and a sticker. Limited to 50 hand-numbered copies.
